Broken Down Computer

Life is crazy busy!  So between work and then having no internet access at home for 3 months I've definitely been cured of some game addictions!  Is the CHAOS and clutter better? No!  What to do...I've been working through Fly Lady's BabySteps.  I'm now on day 10.  I've had a fabulous holiday the last 2 weeks and have gotten sidetracked again.  Do people find that blogging helps them stay on track?  Should I post pictures...scary thought!

February Update

I'm glad I reluctantly wrote down my resolutions!  On reflection I've actually made some movement towards a few.  I've made a haphazard budget and opened a savings account.  In the fitness category I'm working on getting to the Wii Fit gym regularly but also taking chances to walk as the weather warms up.  In the Personal category my Flylady routines have been very shoddy.  What I am finding though is that it gets easier to jump in where I'm at and get a little done rather than nothing!  Online games have been a perfect companion to the cold, dark winter  :(  This resolution needs some work!  At this point this blog is my most concrete journal. I'm excited to be learning some new things about technology as I go that will translate to my career!

Shiny Sink Mission Update

I'm still working on this mission.  This downward spiral I'm on has to be coming to an end.  The regular missions in the "ville" games don't have a time line so I can keep going.  My life does have a time line.

Shiny Sink Mission

This month the Flylady's focus is Shining Your Sink.  So it seems appropriate that I make a shiny sink mission!  A shiny sink seems like a small thing especially when it doesn't necessarily mean that all the dishes are washed!  I pretend that under my sink is the dishwasher and make dishes go away in a dish tub there to be dealt with the next day.  Just like Flylady says it's like waking up to a hug.  My day has been starting out so much better when there is a shiny, empty sink ready to go rather than a cluttered, stinky mess that's a reminder of yet more stuff I need to deal with.  The other pay off of the shiny sink is it's way easier to get started at washing up dishes while making supper!  I'm getting in the habit of filling up the sink as soon as I start supper.

Mission:
  • Shine Sink x7 times
  • reboot laundry x7 days
  • do 15 minutes of decluttering in kitchen x5
Reward:  new dishtowels; 100xp

Christmas Declutter Mission Debrief

Well, I was mostly successful in this mission.  Right now I'm looking at the naked tree with the top 3rd off...I need to wait for help to complete this mission as I can't get the tree apart!  I did get some extra little things done in the mean time such as vacuuming and staying on top of dishes all week.  It was a little more fun and motivating considering taking down Christmas stuff a mission rather than a chore.  My homeville has a long way to go!  I sure wish I could have neighbors over to help keep up the homestead like we do online!  I'm happy to report I haven't played my "ville" game!  I did just about give in last night but the computer was taking forever to load the game so I stopped myself!  This is the one time I was grateful my computer isn't top notch!

Christmas Declutter Mission

I've been home for 24hours now.  The "to do" list is overwhelming!  I've been working through Flylady's Beginner Baby Steps since July so I'm going to be using her lingo in my missions and try to keep it simple.  Chances are many of my missions will be from Kelly Missions of the day.  On my "ville" game there's often several missions happening at a time...I'm still not sure whether I'll do the same or not.

Christmas Declutter Mission:
  • take down Christmas tree
  • put Christmas decorations away (that means the box gets stored too!)
  • unpack 2 bags
  • call 2 friends
Reward: 1 hour guilt free reading with a drink of choice

The Epiphany

I rode on a Greyhound bus for 16 hours with a toddler and neither of us missed our tv, phone, internet or games.  We did sleep through the night portion of the trip but we coloured, read, and talked and were happy being unplugged!  Then for a week I didn't play the games I'd been pissing away time/procrastinating with almost obsessively.  Have you ever woken up in the morning thinking about what you want to accomplish in your game as opposed to your life?  What the hell!  I like games...it's easy to accomplish things.  You get points and silly rewards.  What would happen if I look at my home and decluttering of it as a game?  What will happen to my work if I use my game time on planning and such?
